Here’s another little spam prevention tip-
The email is most likely using a forged ‘from’ address- meaning it probably does not originate from your machine, or even your network. Someone has found your email address somewhere, created a spam email, and is using your address as the ‘from’ address. Sadly, this is easy to do.
If this is the case, there isn’t much you can do about it- the email address has been harvested either from a
1. webpage or
2. a fake unsubscribe linked to spam.
You just have to wait until they start using someone else’s email address to send.
If this is the case, to prevent this happening in the future, try to make sure all instances of email addresses on webpages are obfuscated (there are javascript tools for this), and to only ‘unsubscribe’ from spam that looks like it might actually unsubscribe you, rather than fake your address and send spam emails…..
Have a look at the page source on this website- you won’t be able to read any of the email addresses we publish as they are all encoded to hide from robots that scrape email addresses. When you click on a link to send us an email, they are decoded on the fly
